The Canadian Industrial Machinery (CIM) March 2014 issue is now available online. On CIM’s cover is Winnipeg’s own Duane Lucht. Duane is owner and president of Western Steel and Tube located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Western Steel describes itself as providing “quality and competitive prices” on products ranging from loading ramps to storage containers to garden items.
The article describes how Duane started Western Steel in 1998 with a few successful products. Facing fierce competition from imports, Duane developed and produced different products that were not “easily threatened by foreign competition.” This brought about the introduction of his galvanized steel containers for residential and industrial storage.
Also described in the article are Western Steel’s marketing initiatives, shop efficiency, robotic automation, and Duane’s successful strategies.
On page 31 of the magazine, also seen here, you can see Duane and Jake Altares, robot technician, standing beside one of Empire’s AD-E 2590 Durma press brakes as it works together with the automated robot.
